Super Mario Run has been released on Android devices slightly earlier than expected, Nintendo of America have announced on Twitter.

Players can download the game from Google Play for free, although it will cost £9.99 to unlock the full game. Behind the paywall is access to all six worlds as well as different coloured Toads that help make up your kingdom.

The game originally released last December on iOS devices, and while it has gained some criticism from fans for the paywall and relatively small amount of gameplay, it has been very successful. It is thought to have made Nintendo $5 million within the first 24 hours, and more than $53 million before the end of January.

At this time the game has over 55,000 reviews on Google Play, with 40,000 of them being five stars.
