Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot believes that there will be a “minimum of two years” until we see the PlayStation 5 and next Xbox released.
The comments came during Ubisoft’s investors’ call for the last financial quarter (as reported by Gamestop), with the recent launches of the PlayStation 4 Pro and the Xbox One X the main reason why we will be waiting a long time still.
“As Sony launched PlayStation 4 Pro last year and Microsoft Xbox One X this year, we think we still have a minimum of two years in front of us before something new is coming. But that’s our perception, we don’t have any confidential information on that front.”
Ubisoft has had a pretty successful 2017. Assassin’s Creed Origins, the first game in the franchise for two years after a break was taken in 2016, is said to have sold more than double that of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. It has also published the likes of South Park: The Fractured but Whole, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle this year.
2018 will see Far Cry 5 come out before spring, with other unannounced games no doubt being worked on.
